Subsidiary Task Research: Film Posters

As well as analysing film magazine front covers, i also need to make a poster for my film. Because of this I analysed 3 of each of these. My chosen film posters are from the films Shutter Island, Saw and House.
1. Slogan.

2. Image overlaps the background image and relates to the film.
3. Main actors name used for promotion.
4. Large Title which attracts the viewer’s attention as it stands out from the background.
5. Credit Block.
6. Date of release.
The colour scheme for this poster is black, white and red which conveys the genre of horror.

1. Slogan.

2. Black background which fades to light gray around the picture which draws attention to the image.
3. Large Title which attracts the viewer’s attention as it stands out from the background.
4. Image is black and white and doesn’t give away the plot. Because it isn’t a clear image, it links to the genre of horror.
5. Date of release.
6. Companies who made the film.
The colour scheme for this poster is black, white and red which convey the genre of horror. The black background draws attention to picture in the corner and the title of the film.

1. Sentence to gain audience’s attention and gives an idea of the plot.
2. Plain black background draws attention to the main image.
3. The main image is eerie which appeals to horror fans and doesn’t give away the plot.
4. Large red Title attracts the viewer’s attention as it stands out from the background.
5. Producer’s name is used for promotion.
6. Slogan.
7. Companies who made the film.
8. The certification ensures that the right type of people watch the film.
9. Date of release.
The colour scheme for this poster is black, white and red which convey the genre of horror. The black background draws attention to the main picture and the title of the film.

From analysing these film posters, I concluded that the colour scheme shall be white, red and black as i feel these convey the horror genre and will have the greatest impact on the audience. I will also include an image which relates to the film as well as a slogan to make the film seem intruiging to the audience. The background of my film poster will be plain so the attention is not drawn away from the main image. I will also use the main actors name for promotion and will also include a list of the companies who made the film, the certification and date of release.
