After deciding I would create a promotional package for a new film, as well as a 30-60 second teaser trailer, I need to make a film magazine front cover featuring the film and poster for the film. Therefore, I analysed 3 of each of these. My film front covers are Total Film, Empire and Sight and Sound.
1. Plug, the 'free giant iron man poster' encourages readers to buy the magazine.
2. Date, Issue Number. Price, Website Address provides the reader with relevant information.
3. Masthead of magazine title.
4. Interesting backgournd.
5. Barcode.
6. Plug about the main article is bigger.
7. Feature article photo is a character from the film looking directly at the reader.
8. Cover Lines which list the names of films included in the magazine
9. Plug, but the 'plus' makes it seem like the magazine contains more articles.
The colour scheme of this front cover is purple, yellow and white. The feature article photo stands out as his clothes are brightly coloured. The photo also overlaps the masthead.
2. The insert links to the plug and the ‘exclusive’ makes that article specific to this magazine.
3. Masthead of magazine title.
4. Website Address
5. Cover lines that give the name of the film and also include a screen grab of the film.
6. Plug within a circle shape with a well known icon to make it stand out.
7. Feature article photo of a character from the film but he isn’t looking directly at the reader.
8. Barcode with date, price and issue number.
9. Plug about the main article is bigger
10. Plugs about other articles in the magazine.
11. Added shape
The colour scheme on this front cover is grey, red, white and black. The feature article photo also overlaps the masthead.
1. Masthead of magazine title.
2. Barcode, Date, Issue Number and Price.
3. Puff.
4. British Film Institute (BFI) logo.
5. Plugs about what else is in the magazine.
6. Plug about the main article is bigger.
7. Feature article photo is looking directly at the reader.
8. Plugs, but the 'also' makes it seem like the magazine contains more articles.
9. Plain background so the attention isn't drawn away from the feature article photo.
The colour scheme of this front cover is yellow, red, brown, grey, black and white. The different style of font and font sizes make the cover interesting.
I concluded from analysing these front covers that i will have cover lines with the titles of other films that are in the magazine as well as a feature article photo of a character from my film looking directly at the reader. I will include a barcode, the date, the price of the magazine and the issue number as well as a masthead of my magazine title going from left to right near the top of the page. I will also consider overlaping the feature article photo over the masthead.
